In just his third marathon, 23-year-old Kenyan Kelvin Kiptum shattered the men’s marathon world record in Chicago, clocking 2:00:35, beating Eliud Kipchoge’s previous mark by over 30 seconds. Kiptum expressed his surprise and happiness at achieving the world record. He finished nearly three and a half minutes ahead of his closest competitors. Kiptum is now the first person to run a marathon in under 2 hours and one minute. In the women’s race, Sifan Hassan broke the course record with a time of 2:13:38, the second-fastest ever.(tnk.net)
